His breakthrough novel Goat Days, inspired by the struggles of Indian migrant workers in Saudi Arabia, became a massive bestseller, won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award, and was adapted into the acclaimed 2024 film The Goat Life starring Prithviraj Sukumaran. Jasmine Days, set during the Arab Spring, earned him the inaugural JCB Prize for Literature (2018).
Drawing from his 21 years in Bahrain (1992–2013), Benyamin's works powerfully explore themes of migration, exploitation, identity, and resilience, establishing him as one of Malayalam literature's most influential contemporary voices.
